  • Constipation and/or diarrhoea

  • Reflux

  • Bloating

  • Diverticular disease

  • SIBO

  • Nutrition support post gastrointestinal surgery

What is our approach?

There is a lot of confusing information online when it comes to digestive health. From probiotics to the FODMAP diet, where do you begin?

The first appointment with your dietitian will be an opportunity to share your experiences, lifestyle, and health goals. We provide nutrition advice that is evidence-informed and is achievable to follow.

Things we will discuss in our sessions include:

  • Understanding your diagnosis, symptoms and their cause.

  • Addressing your meal patterns and which nutrients to increase or decrease.

  • The brain-gut connection and how this influences digestive health.

  • Whether the FODMAP protocol is appropriate for you and how to follow the process.

  • Which supplements may be beneficial for you.

  • Education on label-reading.

  • When to seek additional expertise such as medical or psychological support.

  • Assistance with meal planning, snack ideas and menu modification.

IBS and food intolerance testing

IBS and food intolerances can cause uncomfortable symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, fatigue, headaches and rashes.

There is currently no test that can diagnose a food intolerance and completing an elimination diet is the only way to identify which foods you are sensitive to.

Going through the elimination diet with an experienced dietitian is important to ensure you are meeting your nutrition requirements throughout the process and that you complete all phases correctly.

Elimination diets are not appropriate for everyone. They take time, preparation, and are highly restrictive. If you have a history of an eating disorder, these strict food rules and protocols can exacerbate your eating disorder. If you are unable to do an elimination diet there are many approaches to managing IBS and food intolerances that are appropriate for you.
