Weight neutral chronic health support

Good nutrition supports your health and wellbeing. Nutrition in Mind provides tailored support to help manage current health conditions or reduce your risk in the future. Our goal is to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to make health supportive food and nutrition choices.

We provide expert nutrition advice in a weight-neutral approach.

We provide medical nutrition therapy to people who are managing various health concerns. Weight neutral means we do not promote weight loss as a main strategy to improve health. This is because research shows that long-term weight loss is impossible for the vast majority of people.

Instead you can improve your health by incorporating many health-promoting habits, regardless of your body size. Health conditions we provide nutrition support for include:

  • High cholesterol

  • Insulin resistance

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • Eating disorders

  • PCOS

  • Hypertension

  • Healthy ageing

  • Cancer

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

The weight neutral and non-diet approach

The research is in and it is clear that diets and restrictive eating does not make us healthier or result in lasting weight loss. Instead, it can launch you into a cycle of dieting, weight-fluctuations, and confusion about what to eat. This has been shown to make our physical and mental health worse with an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.

Rather than focusing on the scale to measure your progress, we look at your behaviours and thoughts around food. We take an approach that adds more nutrients rather than taking away the foods you enjoy. Through working with Nutrition in Mind dietitians you will:

  • Grow your confidence in nourishing your body with a variety of foods.

  • Learn about the different nutrients and how they impact your body and health.

  • Learn to eat according to your hunger cues and food preferences rather than following a calorie controlled plan.

  • Understand diet culture and how nutrition information from influencers and celebrities can be misleading and worsen your health.

  • Escape the cycle of fad diets, guilt and shame associated with eating.
